Kudos to the Las Vegas firefighters for putting out the fast-spreading rooftop fire that damaged the top five stories of the 3,000 room Monte Carlo hotel and casino. They doused the flames in just one hour - and even defied what they always tell amateurs never to do - they took the hotel elevators up to the fire so they could battle it from the windows of guest rooms (many of which still had the guests belongings still in them, as everyone had to beat a hasty retreat).
No word as to how many guests were displaced or for how long. MGM Mirage management said they would put them in other MGM properties. (Of course, for those displaced folks who are a bit edgy about going into another casino highrise, we still have room at our low-rise B&B - for a couple of you at least…).
The big 2008 NATPE trade show rolls into town on Monday and we’re gearing up for it. Scroll down to see our $105 NATPE rooms special. We’re certain the Monte Carlo doing its recent impression of a Roman Candle will make the town even tighter for rooms.
Well, maybe not – especially when one considers how the hotel industry has changed its own room layout. I remember when virtually every hotel room looked the same way. Let’s see, there was the not-so-great bathroom with tiny towels, the dresser with lots of useless drawers, a round table with chairs, and a not-so-comfortable bed with ho-hum linens, covered by a bedspread of highly questionable cleanliness. Today, things have changed. Rarely does one see a round table and chairs, and the large dressers seem to have gone by the wayside. These items have been replaced with sleek desks and office chairs, outlets galore (to charge your electronic necessities), spacious bathrooms, and (for those hotels in the know), comfortable beds. Hi-speed internet is a must have, and apparently most hotels have made up for the loss of telephone revenue with the average cost of internet at $10-20 per day/ per computer (a particularly big hit for couples traveling together). Ouch - and no printer access to boot (no printing your online boarding-pass before moving on to the next location). With Bed and Office, there’s breakfast, and real coffee. Need I say more? At a hotel, you have to live by the rules; otherwise, as Seinfeld’s Soup Nazi might say, “no breakfast for you”! In comparison, a B&B offers more personalized service, affording you breakfast at your convenience. We aim to combine the best elements of a hip luxury hotel and a charming B&B.
For our friends coming into Las Vegas for the big NAPTE 2008 show and are having a hard time finding a NATPE hotel, we’re going to extend a special (this is being offered first to our friends at the Interactive Television Alliance - www.itvalliance.org - but we will also honor NATPE attendees who contact us directly).
Our normal room rates are $135 for a standard room and $175 for a master suite. For our NAPTE room special, we’ve dropped our price to $105 a night for our standard room and just $145 for our spacious master suite. Please mention the ITA rate when you contact us. Please note that the host hotel, Mandalay Bay, has been sold out for weeks and most other four- and most NATPE hotels - especially five-star and four-star hotels are either sold out (or will be soon) or priced considerably above their normal rates. So why stay in an inferior hotel when for the same price (or less) you can enjoy the Bed and Office experience! Prices do not inlclude 9% Clark County sales tax, but all other amenities are included.
For more information or to book your room, please contact us at 702-290-2546 or email us at bedandoffice@gmail.com

All of these should be in place before NATPE (where all the rooms are sold out at host hotel Mandalay Bay as of two weeks ago), our next major trade show in town — other than World of Concrete , and we don’t have that many contacts in the concrete industry, but we do have many friends and clients in the TV field)
Please let us know how else we can improve your experience at Bed and Office - the nation’s first B&B for business. Contact us at bedandoffice@gmail.com or call 702-290-2546 for reservations.
Well, we survived our grand opening. Four guest out of the five rooms, so an 80 percent occupancy for the opening show isn’t all that bad. We would have had 100 percent, but we had a late cancellation — I guess that’s something we’re going to have to get used to in this industry — or start demanding noncancellable reservations during large trade shows. The truth is we just wanted to get people in, make them happy and not put up a lot of obstacles for our opening — as time rolls on, we’ll have more formalized procedures.
I’ve had a long few weeks putting all the finishing touches on the house - and these are not the FINAL pictures, but they’ll give you a little bit of an idea of how well it’s been coming along. The full website should be up in a few weeks.
If you’re coming to Las Vegas for a trade show — or just looking for upscale, yet affordable Las Vegas rooms or Las Vegas corporate housing, we’re your best bet! We provide a high-end boutique hotel environment, right down to the plush robes, but without the long taxi and check-in lines, noisy casinos and nickel-and-diming on amenities.
